Basketball Recap: Murray Takes a Loss

Murray was the 75-59 winner over Cyprus when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 66-63 on Friday.

Cyprus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Beckham Bayles led the charge by shooting 5-for-9 from downtown and almost dropping a double-double with 22 points and nine assists. The matchup was Bayles' third in a row with at least 18 points. Koli Fosita was another key player, shooting 64% from the field en route to 18 points.

Murray's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Cyprus, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Murray will venture away from home to face off against Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' defense better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 50.5 points per game this season. As for Cyprus, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
