Softball Recap: Pine Forest Takes a Loss

If Pine Forest was riding high fresh off their 17-0 takedown of E.E. Smith last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Triton Hawks on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Hawks: they've now lost four in a row.

Mya Harris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Savannah Winstead and Jaelyn Green stepped up to the plate in a big way. Winstead scored two runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-3, while Green got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Gracie Miller was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Pine Forest now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Triton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-2.

Looking ahead, Triton will challenge Terry Sanford at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pine Forest will be paying especially close attention to the Hawks' match: after the Hawks faces off against the Bulldogs, they'll take on Pine Forest again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
