The Portland Panthers will challenge the Montgomery Central Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Portland has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Portland hadn't beaten Springfield on the road since April 15, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Yellow Jackets, sneaking past 6-5.

Portland got a great performance from Kevin Cook as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Cook a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Jesiah Scharklet and Jay Guthrie did most of the damage at the plate: Scharklet went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Guthrie went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Guthrie has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Lane, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Montgomery Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Northwest. Indians fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Saturday.
Dylan Fulton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Malosi Laban, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Montgomery Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-19. As for Portland, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-19 record this season.
