Softball Recap: Marquez Continues Road Dominance on Monday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Marquez ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They put the hurt on the South Gate Rams with a sharp 14-7 win. Considering the Gladiators have won 14 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Darla Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over eight innings while giving up seven earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Delilah Sanchez was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Aguirre, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Marquez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Marquez pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.9 runs. As for South Gate, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-16.

Marquez didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-1 win against Torres on the 30th. As for South Gate, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 8-7 victory against Ramona Convent on the 30th.
