The Page County Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Strasburg Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Page County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight defeats, while Strasburg will come in with five straight victories.
Page County came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Madison County by a score of 7-5 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since May 20, 2024.
Tyler Shifflett put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Shifflett was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, John Leake made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Strasburg made easy work of Rappahannock County on Tuesday and carried off a 10-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Page County, Strasburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Reynolds. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reynolds has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
In other batting news, Aiden Adkins was a standout: he went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Dellinger, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Strasburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Strasburg's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Page County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Page County skirted past Strasburg 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
