Baseball Recap: Mater Dei Triumphs

Mater Dei's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins, sneaking past 7-6. For the Knights, this counts as revenge for the 7-1 win the Griffins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Chase Zurliene looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Mater Dei: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-11 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Salzman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. Avery Strader was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Father McGivney Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.

Mater Dei wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-4 win against Valmeyer on the 1st. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-0 victory against Calhoun on the 1st.
