Preview: Liberty Lightning vs. Iowa City Little Hawks

Liberty is 8-2 against Iowa City since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Liberty Lightning will look to defend their home court against the Iowa City Little Hawks at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Liberty and ten for Iowa City.

Liberty pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 75-56 to Linn-Mar. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Linn-Mar is ranked 29th).

Liberty's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cooper Webb, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Trey Hughes, who scored 13 points.

Iowa City suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 69-32 defeat at the hands of Cedar Falls. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Iowa City has scored all season.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Iowa City, they bumped their record down to 4-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Liberty beat Iowa City 57-48 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Liberty repeat their success, or does Iowa City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
