Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Danika Aristide and Lyla Huddleston Lead Westwood to Victory

Westwood hadn't done well against Elkhart recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Westwood Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 victory over the Elkhart Elks. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Elks back in January, they had to take a 46-38 defeat.

Leading Westwood to victory were Lyla Huddleston and Danika Aristide. Huddleston posted 20 points along with eight steals and seven boards, while Aristide went 6 of 11 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. The contest was Huddleston's third in a row with at least 16 points. Paxtyn Coker also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Elkhart still got an impressive performance from Shu'Nydeya Whitehead, who scored 14 points. Lilly Gay was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Westwood's win bumped their record up to 6-17. As for Elkhart, their loss dropped their record down to 9-20.

Westwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 43-34 victory against Groesbeck on the 31st. As for Elkhart, they have also already played their next contest, a 59-23 defeat against Fairfield on the 3rd.
