Game recap: Morristown-Hamblen West High School Football Team tops Cocke County

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. - the Trojans had a big 21-point second quarter on Saturday, sealing a 41-7 victory over Cocke County (Newport, Tenn.).

Morristown-Hamblen West scored on a Malachi Horton touchdown run, a Will Gardner touchdown pass to Drew Epps and a touchdown run by Zach Pell in the quarter.

After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Gardner to Epps in the first quarter, MHW led 28-0 at the half.

The Morristown school expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. The Trojans scored once in the quarter on a Horton touchdown run.



Morristown-Hamblen West's standout player in the win was Epps. The senior wide receiver caught two touchdowns.

Dakota Mcgaha made a difference for the Fighting Cocks. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.

Cocke County's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run by Mcgaha in the fourth quarter.

MHW came in allowing an average of 24.3 points per game this season. The Trojans held firm on the defensive front, and kept CC well below the 16.8 points it had been averaging per game.

When the two teams played each other last season, Morristown-Hamblen West came away with a 47-6 victory.

The loss comes after Cocke County defeated Morristown-Hamblen East 34-27 last week.



Morristown-Hamblen West (6-3) will play a AAA District 2 game against Seymour next week, while Cocke County (3-6) will take on Cherokee also in a AAA District 2 game.
