Football Recap: Anderson Mercer and Gavin Gray Secure Win for Agoura

Agoura extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 4-2. Everything went their way against the Santa Paula Cardinals as they made off with a 35-10 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Chargers just coasted through the last quarter.

A big part of Agoura's win came down to the chemistry between Gavin Gray and his top target Anderson Mercer. Gray threw for 285 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes while Mercer picked up 44 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Gray is becoming a predictor of Agoura's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Agoura didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Luke Bussiere. Agoura got some further help from Will Gelt: he picked up two sacks and made six total tackles (4.0 for loss).

As for Santa Paula, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. They were red-hot offensively heading into the game (they scored no less than 31 points in the three contests prior), but Agoura's defense proved too tough.

When it comes to explaining why Santa Paula lost, don't look at Sebastian Alcantar. Despite the final result, he rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown.
