Basketball Recap: Westover Patriots vs. Bainbridge Bearcats

While it was all tied up 18-18 at halftime, the Westover Patriots were not quite the Bainbridge Bearcats's equal in the second half on Friday. Westover took a 46-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bearcats. Westover was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.

Westover's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Landers, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Donaldson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Z'riah Solomon continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bainbridge, shooting 5-for-6 from deep and dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Solomon has scored all season. Taliyah Ausgood was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Westover and nudges their season record down to 9-12. As for Bainbridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.

Westover will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Hardaway is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. As for Bainbridge, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Shaw is ranked 220th, while the Bearcats are ranked 239th).
