Soccer Game Preview: New Braunfels vs. Smithson Valley

The New Braunfels Unicorns will challenge the Smithson Valley Rangers at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. New Braunfels will be strutting in after a victory while Smithson Valley will be coming in after a loss.

Smithson Valley better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when New Braunfels really get things going. New Braunfels was the clear victor by a 4-1 margin over Veterans Memorial on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Unicorns as they're now sitting on three straight.

They hit Veterans Memorial with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Tanner Costanzi, Joshua Hinton, Caleb Richardson, and Brodie Berger.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley has been on a difficult stretch since their win on the fourth. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pieper on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 385th, while the Warriors are ranked 159th).

New Braunfels' victory bumped their record up to 5-3-2. As for Smithson Valley, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 0-1-3 and their overall record down to 2-4-4.

New Braunfels skirted past Smithson Valley 3-2 in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Does New Braunfels have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smithson Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
