Athens came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the River Valley Raiders 4-2. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Athens pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for River Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Athens will have a chance to go back-to-back against River Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
