Softball Recap: Proviso East Comes Up Short

Proviso East had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it 13. They lost 20-0 to the Hinsdale South Hornets. If the Pirates were looking for revenge after losing 15-1 to the Hornets when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hinsdale South, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-14-1. That looming 20-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Hinsdale South's part, Kayla Buckels-Meen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Those six RBI gave Buckels-Meen a new career-high. Alex Kuhlman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

Proviso East and Hinsdale South could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Pirates (ranked 499th) will meet Addison Trail (ranked 243rd) at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hinsdale South will take on Downers Grove South at 4:45 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (411 vs. 191).
