Basketball Recap: Katilyn Wanamaker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dietrich over West Jefferson

After flying high against Hansen last Thursday, Dietrich came back down to earth. The Dietrich Blue Devils took a hard 51-34 fall against the West Jefferson Panthers on Saturday.

Dietrich's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katilyn Wanamaker, who posted five points in addition to 12 rebounds and four blocks. Wanamaker is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lily Hanson, who put up two points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Dietrich smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Dietrich has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for West Jefferson, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dietrich will square off against Castleford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Castleford will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Dietrich surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Jefferson, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the West Jefferson Panthers take on the Firth Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
