Basketball Recap: Bell Takes a Loss

Bell played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 69-19 loss at the hands of the Trenton Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while the Tigers are ranked 139th).

When it comes to explaining why Bell lost, don't look at Dacy Graham. Despite the final result, she posted six points along with nine boards and three steals. Graham has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Even though they lost, Bell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Trenton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nyima Gillyard, who put up 11 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayley Sloan, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points.

Bell has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Trenton, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Bell will host Dixie County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Trenton, they will venture away from home to face off against Chiefland at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chiefland will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Trenton surely won't give up without a fight.
