Basketball Recap: San Juan Beats Bayfield for Their Third Straight Win

San Juan entered their tilt with Bayfield on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Wolverines by a score of 69-57. That's more bragging rights for the Broncos, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Juan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Duke, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Baylor Nielson was another key player, going 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points and four steals.

San Juan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Bayfield still got an impressive performance from Hayes Malone, who shot 73% from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points. Another player making a difference was Drew Jepson, who posted nine points.

San Juan's record now sits at 4-1. As for Bayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, San Juan will square off against Montezuma-Cortez at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bayfield, they have already played their next matchup, a 56-48 win against Durango on the 8th.
