Softball Game Preview: Water Canyon Wildcats vs. Kanab Cowboys

Water Canyon is 0-4 against Kanab since May of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will head out to take on the Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. Water Canyon has given up an average of 20.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Water Canyon is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 35th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against Beaver, falling 24-2.

Sandra Jessop was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

Meanwhile, Kanab got the win against Piute last Thursday by a conclusive 13-3. The win continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won four in a row.

JayCee Lathim looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Janes, who fired off three triples, three stolen bases, and four runs while going 3-for-5. Those three triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was SaDar Swapp, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Kanab kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.4.

Water Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Kanab, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-13.

Water Canyon suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Kanab in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
