League recap: Canby surprises Oregon City

Canby scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Oregon City, 42-20. At the time, the Pioneers was ranked 10th in the state, while the Cougars was 31st.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lakeridge, who took down 35th ranked Lakeridge, 45-21. Dan Sherrell ran for 284 yards and caught one passes for three yards in the win.

Justen Ruppe put up the best numbers through the air as Lake Oswego beat West Linn. He finished with a total of three completions for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Ruppe's favorite target this week was Nick Palermini, who caught one pass for 57 yards.

Erick Douglass was the best wideout in 6A Three Rivers this week as Clackamas topped the Pacers. Douglass tallied seven receptions for 66 yards.

Mehayl Zarkoff made the biggest impact on defense this week as Canby beat Oregon City. The 5-foot-11 senior recorded one fumble.

Clackamas' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cavaliers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Doonie Johnson has thrown for 776 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Douglass has 32 catches for 327 yards. Sherrell leads the league in rushing with 889 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Lakers and Mike Vaught's team. Lake Oswego comes into the matchup ranked first in the state, while the Cougars ranks 17th.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Steve Coury's team takes on Canby. The Lakers have allowed 42 points this season, while the Cougars have given up 140. Lake Oswego allowed 0 points last week as it topped the Lions.

The Lakers' JB Holmes rumbled for the longest rushing play in 6A Three Rivers this season in his game against West Linn last week. Holmes scampered for 60 yards on the play and finished with 108 on the day as his team bested Mike Fanger's team.
