Basketball Recap: Waxahachie's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Waxahachie was feeling good fresh off their 92-67 takedown of Skyline last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Waxahachie Indians took a 74-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancaster Tigers on Saturday. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Waxahachie saw an underclassman step up: freshman Luckie Harbert went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points. Harbert continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Trae Nunn was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Waxahachie's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-9. As for Lancaster, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Waxahachie and Lancaster should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Waxahachie (ranked 97th) will meet Mesquite (ranked 375th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Waxahachie is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Lancaster (ranked 19th) will meet DeSoto (ranked 72nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
