Softball Recap: Gunderson Extends Home Winning Streak to 11

Gunderson lost to Independence back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Grizzlies had just enough and edged out the 76ers 6-5. That's two games straight that the Grizzlies have won by just one run.

Dezirae Regalado was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Regalado was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaelyn Vejar, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Gunderson's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Independence, they moved to 11-4 with that defeat, which also ended their 11-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gunderson will venture away from home to challenge Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.42 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Independence, they are taking a road trip to take on Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.62 runs per game on average), something the 76ers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
