Preview: Sullivan Redskins vs. Pana Panthers
Sullivan is 5-0 against Pana since March of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Sullivan Redskins have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome the Pana Panthers at 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Sullivan came up short against Mattoon and fell 4-1.
Aeralyn Thrasher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Sullivan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was J?Nai Webb, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Even though they lost, Sullivan didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mattoon only tossed three.
Meanwhile, Pana never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Ramsey with a sharp 11-0 win. The victory was just what Pana needed coming off of a 10-0 defeat in their prior matchup.
Pana also got a great performance from Anahi Cooper as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Izzy Reed was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a triple. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Bowker, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
Sullivan now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Pana, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sullivan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 per game. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
