Preview: St. George's Gryphons vs. Kirby Cougars

The St. George's Gryphons will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Kirby Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, it was close, but St. George's ultimately received the gift of a 46-44 victory from a begrudging Gryphonssquad. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while Brighton is ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. George's got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Land out in front who scored ten points. The match was Land's third in a row with at least ten points. Rollin Crose was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Even though Kirby has not done well against Mitchell recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Kirby simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mitchell 60-33 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Kirby has managed all season.

St. George's pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Kirby, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6.

St. George's strolled past Kirby in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 83-66. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. George's since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
