Baseball Recap: Merced's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Merced's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Golden Valley Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Bears: when they faced off against the Cougars last Monday, they had to take a 14-4 loss.

Conner Vitelli made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryce Jimenez was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Merced: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Frost, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Merced's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Golden Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Golden Valley beat Merced by a score of 12-4 on Friday.
