Game recap: Manatee High School Football Team defeats Venice

BRADENTON, Fla. - Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) received a huge boost from its defense against Venice (Fla.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Venice (Fla.), 56-7.

The Hurricanes were up 49-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Cord Sandberg to Brodrick Yancy in the first quarter.

With the win Manatee extended its winning streak to 12 games. MHS defeated the Vikings 65-12 last week.

Sandberg was the top performer for the Bradenton school. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. A member of the 2013 Top 100, Sandberg has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.

The Indians' lone touchdown came on a 28-yard pass in the third quarter.



Led by Derrick Calloway, the Hurricanes had given up an average of 12.2 points prior to the contest.

When the two teams played each other last season, Manatee came away with a 34-21 victory.

The loss comes after Venice defeated Pinellas Park 31-21 last week.
