Basketball Game Preview: Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors vs. Spirit HomeSchool Warhawks

The Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors will head out to face off against the Spirit HomeSchool Warhawks at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Last Thursday, Southwest Virginia Academy made easy work of Boys' Home and carried off a 68-44 victory. The Conquerors pushed the score to 54-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hilltoppers cut but never quite recovered from.

Southwest Virginia Academy had a senior duo take command as Nehemiah Goad went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points in addition to eight assists and five boards and Mason Newman went 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newman has scored all season. Gabriel Bishop was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Spirit HomeSchool humbled Veritas School with a 72-39 victory. The Warhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Southwest Virginia Academy's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Spirit HomeSchool, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-6.

Southwest Virginia Academy and Spirit HomeSchool were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, but Southwest Virginia Academy came up empty-handed after a 68-67 defeat. Can Southwest Virginia Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
