Baseball Recap: Center Hill Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Center Hill, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They put the hurt on the Olive Branch Conquistadors with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Conquistadors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Cooper McCool made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mac Atkins and Whitman Key did most of the damage at the plate: Atkins scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Key went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Center Hill is undefeated when Key posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Brunetz, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Center Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Center Hill's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Olive Branch, the loss snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 9-3 record.

Center Hill will have a chance to go back-to-back against Olive Branch: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
