Basketball Recap: Olivia Demere's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Everglades City over Marco Island Academy

After flying high against Mason Classical Academy last Tuesday, Everglades City came back down to earth. The Everglades City Gators fell to the Marco Island Academy Rays 35-31. The Gators were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rays earlier this season, when they won 50-32.

Everglades City's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Demere, who posted nine points and five steals. Demere has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayde Freeman, who earned six points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Everglades City's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Marco Island Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Everglades City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marco Island Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Donahue Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Donahue Catholic will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Marco Island Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
