Softball Recap: Odem's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Odem unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Mathis Pirates, falling 16-4. If the Owls were looking for revenge after losing 14-0 to the Pirates when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Anabella Santellana was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Presley Simmons also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Odem's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-11. As for Mathis, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Odem will head out to square off against Ingleside at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ingleside's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Odem's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mathis, they are taking a road trip to take on Aransas Pass at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aransas Pass will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
