Baseball Recap: Sanford Victorious

Sanford proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Kennebunk Rams 4-3. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rams, too.

Brady Adams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Tyler Do was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Scott Robitaille Jr, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Sanford is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kennebunk, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Sanford will face off against rival Marshwood at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 2.8, the Hawks 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Kennebunk is set to challenge their familiar foe Windham at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
