Preview: West Forsyth Titans vs. R.J. Reynolds Demons
The West Forsyth Titans will be playing at home against the R.J. Reynolds Demons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully West Forsyth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday.
West Forsyth unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Davie. The matchup was a 19-19 toss-up at halftime, but West Forsyth couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the loss, West Forsyth saw an underclassman step up: Brooklynn King scored 15 points along with two steals. Emma Staples was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
West Forsyth struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, R.J. Reynolds entered their tilt with East Forsyth with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. R.J. Reynolds strolled past East Forsyth with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 45-30. Given R.J. Reynolds' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while East Forsyth is ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Forsyth's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for R.J. Reynolds, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.
West Forsyth came up short against R.J. Reynolds in their previous matchup back in January, falling 38-29. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of R.J. Reynolds' Shyla Simms, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Now that West Forsyth knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
