Softball Recap: Evangel Christian Wins Going Away Against North River Christian

Evangel Christian won against Southern Christian last Friday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Everything went Evangel Christian's way against the North River Christian Chargers as Evangel Christian made off with an 11-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Lightning in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won nine in a row.

Ella Ruth Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Gracelynn Shackelford and Makayla Cranford did most of the damage at the plate: Shackelford scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Cranford went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Gracie Vines also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Evangel Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for North River Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will welcome Trinity Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North River Christian, they will face off against Heritage Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. North River Christian is facing Heritage Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Heritage Christian Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
