Basketball Recap: Lovington Drops Highest Score of Season Against Chaparral

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lovington). They claimed a resounding 85-35 win over the Chaparral Lobos. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 22 points or more this season.

Lovington got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashelynn Borunda out in front who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten boards. The contest was Borunda's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaiya Castro, who went 10 of 16 on her way to 27 points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Lovington was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Lovington's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Chaparral, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

As for Chaparral, they will square off against Hatch Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chaparral will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Hatch Valley will have lost seven straight heading into Wednesday's matchup.
