Cumberland won the last time they faced Martinsville and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Bluestreaks 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Cumberland had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-20, 27-25.

Their offense was headlined by Hannah Shoemaker and Mia Holsapple, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Alysa Dittamore and her 23 assists. Shoemaker was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Cumberland's victory bumped their record up to 11-13-1. As for Martinsville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-14.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will head out to challenge Casey-Westfield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Martinsville, they will welcome Hutsonville/Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
