Basketball Game Preview: Calvin Christian Crusaders vs. Classical Academy Caimans

Calvin Christian is 8-2 against Classical Academy since January of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Calvin Christian Crusaders will face off against the Classical Academy Caimans at 6:30 p.m. Calvin Christian is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Calvin Christian fought the good fight in their overtime match against San Diego Jewish Academy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Noah Lampkins, who shot 4-for-5 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Caleb Lapka was another key player, putting up 14 points along with five assists and five boards.

Meanwhile, Classical Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Escondido Adventist Academy 46-43.

Calvin Christian better keep an eye on Nathan French. He was instrumental in Classical Academy's win, posting 14 points.

Calvin Christian now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Classical Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.

Calvin Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Classical Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 38-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calvin Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
