The University Christian Christians will challenge the Covenant School of Jacksonville Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (University Christian: 3.8, Covenant School of Jacksonville: 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
University Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Baldwin on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 3-2.
University Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Worbington, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. What's more, Worbington posted four hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Corey Wimberly was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Covenant School of Jacksonville had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Saints a 15-0 shutout. The Warriors' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matchups.
Javien Strobridge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Strobridge was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Randy Parker was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stole at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Baker Holway, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Covenant School of Jacksonville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .519 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Covenant School of Jacksonville's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs over those games. As for University Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
