Football Recap: Troup Extends Winning Streak to Four

Troup put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 20-3 win over the Rusk Eagles. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Leading Troup to victory were Josh Childress and Brett Wells. Childress rushed for 55 yards and one TD, while Wells rushed for 71 yards and one touchdown. Wells was even better on defense, making 11 total tackles and defending one pass. Dee Hollie got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Troup proved: they limited Rusk to a paltry 0.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Wells for the heroic effort on defense: he. Troup's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.6.

Troup didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cameron Hollie and Dee. Dee got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Troup's record now sits at 4-0. As for Rusk, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Troup will host Arp at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Troup will need to watch out since Arp has now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Rusk, they will square off against Canton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Canton's defense has only allowed 5.2 points per game this season, so Rusk's offense will have their work cut out for them.
