Flag Football Game Preview: Laguna Creek Cardinals vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

Laguna Creek is 0-3 against Monterey Trail since September of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, Laguna Creek was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 12-6 to Elk Grove. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 499th, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 167th).

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Monterey Trail beat Franklin 19-13 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

One reason for the win was Monterey Trail's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ezira Hawkins. Isabella Barrientos got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Laguna Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Monterey Trail, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.

Laguna Creek was dealt a bruising 38-0 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
