Baseball Recap: Lakeland Gets the Win

Lakeland had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 6-13 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Western Wayne Wildcats, sneaking past 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Justin King looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Lakeland: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 2-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Lakeland's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Loomis, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those two hits gave Loomis a new career-high.

As for Western Wayne, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-14. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Western Wayne's side, Damian Glackin spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. Glackin has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Looking ahead, Lakeland will take on Tunkhannock at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Western Wayne, they will challenge Montrose at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Meteors have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
