Soccer Recap: Palmetto Ridge Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Gateway

Palmetto Ridge's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Gateway Eagles by a score of 3-1. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Eagles are ranked 138th).

Salma Mehdi and Yago Jaszchuk scored all three of Palmetto Ridge's goals, bringing their combined season tally to five goals.

Palmetto Ridge picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-8-4. As for Gateway, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4-3.

Palmetto Ridge will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Vero Beach at 2:45 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Gateway also won't see the pitch for a while: their next matchup is against Aubrey Rogers at 12:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
