The Las Plumas Thunderbirds will head out on the road to challenge the Lassen Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Las Plumas took on West Valley two weeks ago. Las Plumas put the hurt on West Valley with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Thunderbirds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Bryson Hutcheson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Las Plumas is 1-0-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-3 otherwise.
At the plate, Las Plumas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Rosauer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI Rosauer has posted since back in April of 2024. Ethan Gramps was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lassen won against Durham on Saturday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Lassen walked away with a 5-1 win over Durham. The victory was familiar territory for the Grizzlies, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Zayn Wright was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Lassen got a great performance from Gaven Mueller as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.2 innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave Mueller a new career-low.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Garate, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Trevor Schaap also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Lassen pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.6 in the others. As for Las Plumas, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3-2.
Las Plumas beat Lassen 5-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for Las Plumas since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
