Football Recap: Calhoun Keeps Jones' Under Pressure

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against La Vernia, Calhoun was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They managed a 41-36 victory over the Jones Trojans. The Sandcrabs' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Ashton Sternadel had a dynamite game, throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes, while also punching in one rushing score. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (149.3).

Calhoun's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out Tyler Lang three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Reuben Lu, Luke Bonuz, and Jesus Jaramillo, who each picked up one sack apiece.

When it comes to explaining why Jones lost, don't look at Lang. Despite the final result, he threw for 254 yards and four TDs.

Calhoun has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. As for Jones, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Coming up, Calhoun will challenge Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sandcrabs will be up against the Tigers/Jaguars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Jones, they will take on La Vernia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
