Basketball Recap: Curlew Takes a Loss

Curlew was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by the Republic Tigers 72-28. The matchup marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Curlew saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jake Olson went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points. Luke Doyen was another key player, putting up five points and six rebounds.

Landon Short was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 36 points and 11 boards for Republic. The game was Short's 15th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Helio Songhand, who posted nine points and seven assists.

Curlew's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Republic, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-6 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Curlew will head out to square off against Pateros at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Republic, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Republic Tigers duke it out with the Cusick Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Republic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season.
