Basketball Recap: Springfield Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Springfield hadn't done well against Northeast recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Springfield Yellow Jackets walked away with a 67-56 victory over the Northeast Eagles. This was payback for the Yellow Jackets, who suffered a 60-49 loss the last time these two teams met.

Despite the defeat, Northeast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kiovoney Gilmore dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for Gilmore. The team also got some help courtesy of Jo Sia Harris, who went 5 of 9 en route to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Springfield's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-14. As for Northeast, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Springfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 68-64 victory against Kirkwood on the 21st. As for Northeast, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-47 defeat against Kenwood on the 21st.
