Volleyball Recap: Belleville West Maroons vs. Althoff Catholic Crusaders
Belleville West was the 2-0 winner over Althoff Catholic when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Maroons fell 2-0 to the Crusaders on Thursday.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-7.
Parker Schmidt paced Belleville West's offense, picking up three kills. Schmidt got some help from Tyler Lintz and his six assists.
Althoff Catholic found their leader in sophomore Rhett Neville, who had 21 assists and eight digs. Neville is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 13 or more in each of the last 34 games he's played dating back to last season.
Belleville West has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Althoff Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.
Coming up, Belleville West will venture away from home to face off against Metro-East Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Althoff Catholic, they will welcome O'Fallon at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Crusaders have won three straight at home, while the Panthers won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
