Recap: Brookstone Cougars vs. Calvary Christian Knights
The Brookstone Cougars pushed their score all the way to 70 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to Calvary Christian. Brookstone was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Calvary Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November.
When it comes to explaining why Brookstone lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chapman Dykes. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points. That's the first time this season that Dykes scored 15 or more points. Thomas Henderson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Calvary Christian found their leader in underclassman Tj Benson, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten assists. The match was Benson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Walls, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 21 rebounds.
Brookstone's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5. As for Calvary Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Brookstone and Mount de Sales Academy will face off at 2:30 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mount de Sales Academy has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests. Calvary Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Autauga Academy at 12:30 p.m. on December 27th.
