Basketball Recap: Nelson Island Takes a Loss

Nelson Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 63-42 to the Akiuk Memorial Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-40 back in January.

Despite the loss, Nelson Island saw an underclassman step up: freshman Acelyn Moses posted 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moses has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Audrey Lincoln, who had nine points.

Akiuk Memorial found their leader in freshman Chloe Wassillie, who put up 26 points. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for Wassillie. Jaylene Kalila was another key player, putting up ten points.

Nelson Island's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Akiuk Memorial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-6.

Nelson Island does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Akiuk Memorial, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-31 victory against Lewis Angapak on the 2nd.
