Preview: Destin Sharks vs. Freeport Bulldogs
Destin is 3-0 against Freeport since December of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. Both teams will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Destin has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-2 during that stretch of close contests.
Destin pushed their score all the way to 55 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 59-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pine Forest.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Bryson Nixon, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Traiton Mauffray, who scored 12 points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Freeport's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. The matchup between Freeport and Rocky Bayou Christian wasn't particularly close, with Freeport falling 64-47.
Destin's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Freeport, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Destin against Freeport in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 86-39 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Freeport's Julius Miles, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Destin still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
