Preview: Caledonia Fighting Scots vs. West Ottawa Panthers
After two games on the road, Caledonia is heading back home. They will take on the West Ottawa Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Caledonia suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. Their rough 68-46 defeat to East Kentwood might stick with them for a while. Caledonia has struggled against East Kentwood recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kyan Vanderwoude, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jaiden Googins was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Ottawa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They lost to Rockford at home by a decisive 76-59 margin. While losing is never fun, West Ottawa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Rockford is ranked 11th).
Caledonia has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for West Ottawa, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Caledonia came up short against West Ottawa in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 65-61. Can Caledonia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
