Football Game Preview: Rancho Bernardo Broncos vs. Del Norte Nighthawks

Rancho Bernardo is 9-1 against Del Norte since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Broncos will challenge the Nighthawks at 7:15 p.m. Rancho Bernardo will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

On Friday, Rancho Bernardo needed a bit of extra time to put away San Diego. They walked away with a 23-16 victory over the Cavers. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Cavers are ranked 308th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rancho Bernardo found their leader in sophomore Gaige Weddle, who rushed for 104 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 51 yards and one touchdown. Those 104 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Weddle.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Rancho Bernardo, racking up 11 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Enzo Flores: he added nine points with three field goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Norte). They blew past Chula Vista 54-6 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Rancho Bernardo's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Del Norte, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Rancho Bernardo strolled past Del Norte in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 28-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
